EPL2 is a text based language that uses all keyboard accessible characters to communicate with all other Eltron label printers. It is used primarily in dot matrix line printers, but it is also used in a number of ink jet printers. The XL designates wide-carriage printers, the II and III designate upgrades to the Proprinter data stream, and the 24 refers to the Proprinter data stream used for pin printers.
