NHTSA sets CAFE standards for passenger cars and for light trucks collectively, light-duty vehicles , and separately sets fuel consumption standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and engines.

NHTSA also regulates the fuel-economy window stickers on new vehicles. NHTSA has extended the comment period for the Draft Supplemental EIS in order to coincide with the closing of the comment period for the NPRM and provide commenters additional opportunity to comment; the Federal Register document announcing this extension is linked below. NHTSA will seek comment for 60 days on its tentative conclusion that these standards are maximum feasible for the model years covered.

CAFE is the literacy system that compliments the Daily 5 structure. Posted on the classroom wall and built throughout the year, the CAFE Menu serves as a visual reminder of whole-class instruction as well as individual student goals.

By focusing on the four key components of successful reading: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary, and providing strategies to support each goal, the CAFE System is an efficient and effective way to assess, instruct, and monitor student progress.
